About Us

Lark Hall Studios

Lark Hall Studios is led by award winning garden designer, Katherine Hathaway who graduated with distinction from the Pickard School of Garden Design in Bristol. Katherine also holds an RHS qualification in Horticulture through the University of Bristol Botanic Garden. Last year, Katherine was one of only three people to achieve a Platinum award for her 'Beautiful Border' in support of the work of Sensory Trust at Gardener's World Live, Birmingham NEC.

Growing up in a large garden complete with vegetable plot, fruit cage and greenhouse, Katherine has always gardened - even when she lived in a flat and only had a balcony! She also has a passion for textiles especially quilts, and routinely brings her strong feel for colour and pattern from this medium into her garden and planting design.

Before she returned to a career in design, she worked across multiple sectors, leading multi-million-pound projects at national level. She also holds a masters in change management. Any project will therefore be in very safe hands.

Katherine’s philosophy is that the best gardens work in harmony with their surroundings, even if they are using modern materials in a traditional setting. Well-designed gardens are often deceptively simple too. The designer’s discipline is in knowing when to stop and what to take out of a design rather than how many features to add in.

Lark Hall Studios has a network of designers and other specialists that we work with if a project requires, as well as a high-quality group of reliable suppliers and makers whose work we trust.

"In garden arrangement, as in all other kinds of decorative work, one has not only to acquire a knowledge of what to do, but also to gain some wisdom in perceiving what it is well to let alone."
